The Power of Native Plants: A Conversation with Landscape Architect Juanita Salisbury

April 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Power of Native Plants

Speaker: Juanita Salisbury

Join us to learn about creating and maintaining a community garden with native plants!

Our speaker: Juanita Salisbury Juanita has successfully created five public native plant gardens in the City of Palo Alto, thus bringing the power of native plants to the residents in easily accessible locations. These gardens are maintained by the community. Services such as water are provided by the city.

Her first garden, the Primrose Way Pollinator Garden, was created in 2016 and has been featured on the Growing Natives Garden Tour. (Click on the first link for an overview, plant list, and many photos)

The next four gardens were each created based on the success and knowledge gained from the Primrose Garden. The gardens are always open:

1. Primrose Way Pollinator Garden

2. Arcadia Place Pollinator Garden

3. Island Drive Pollinator Garden

4. Guinda Street Pollinator Garden

5. Hopkins Avenue Pollinator Garden

6. New one coming soon!

About our Speaker, Juanita Salisbury Juanita is a landscape architect who began her career in another field, but her passion for native plants drew her to obtaining education in landscaping and applying it in these community gardens in high traffic areas. She has been wildly successful in designing and creating multiple native plant gardens in the City of Palo Alto. She has recruited many volunteers and convince the city to “donate” the land, clear the weeds, provide water and more!
