Planting California Natives — What, Where, When, and How
March 17 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm$45
This workshop is taught in Patricia’s secluded 1-acre wild escape on a slough located west of Davis Spring plant sales will be starting soon and this is an opportunity to view a 15-year-old native garden that now features more than 300 species and cultivars of California native plants. Participants will gather many ideas for planting. This garden is especially useful to illustrate plants growing in a variety of microclimates. After instruction, demonstrations and with lots of guidance, we will all participate in some ground prep and planting of a new garden area.
Some of the topics we hope to cover:
- What to plant — sources, seeds vs plants, container size, and tips for selection
- Where to plant in your garden — site evaluation, microclimates and design tips
- When to plant — spring vs fall, tips for planting annual wildflowers
- How to plant — everyone may practice, information on how to establish plants
There will be time explore the garden and a lunch break. Please bring a lunch or snack. A composting toilet is available for use. Sturdy mud shoes, garden gloves and a warm jacket are advised. No dogs please.
