Mt. Eddy Rare Plant Treasure Hunt
August 8th, 2019 | Mt. Eddy, Shasta-Trinity National Forest | Shasta Chapter
Start training now for our all-day CNPS Rare Plant Treasure Hunt! At 9.0 miles roundtrip and 2150 feet elevation gain, this will definitely be a strenuous hike on an uneven, steep trail. We will not do much botanizing on the way up, needing to keep up a steady pace to reach our goal–the Mt. Eddy Sky Pilot, Polemonium eddyense. The plant only occurs on Mt. Eddy and is one of the target species for CNPS seed banking with California Plant Rescue. We will attempt to locate it and report how far along it is in its season to help CNPS track phenology for seed banking efforts. No collecting for us! We may have time to admire the other plants on our way back down. Please be reminded this is a group activity; if you want to race to the top or think you might hold us back inordinately, this fieldtrip is not for you! Bring what you will need for the day, lots of water, lunch, energy snacks. We will have an early morning meet time of 7:00 a..m. No dogs please. Call John Springer at 530/917-0567 for more information and to reserve a spot.
