Exploring the Ten Mile Dunes Preserve with State Parks Senior Enviornmental Scientist Terra Fuller

June 4 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Ten Mile Dunes Preserve is a prime example of the native dune habitat that occurs in only a few locations along the California coastline and one of the two native dune habitats in Mendocino County. The Preserve encompasses 1,300 acres of relatively pristine coastal dunes, providing suitable conditions for those adapted to the tough environment of the dune habitat. Prior development left the dunes impacted but current restoration efforts by State Parks is returning the dunes to their full glory! On our walk, we will carefully explore this special place and learn about the plants (and maybe animals) that inhabit our local dune ecosystem and the exciting work State Parks is doing to restore this natural treasure. Terra will be joined by CNPS member Jim Gibson who will talk about the native plants of our dunes.

This is an easy 5-mile out and back walk in dune habitat.
