We enter the eucalyptus plantation, emerging onto remnant native grassland/wildflower area.
We’ll contour around the mountain, discussing the value of preserving these pieces of the original landscape, and through a rich and delightful patch of huckleberry with two species of large bunchgrasses: California fescue and Nootka reed grass.
Then we reenter the plantation, discussing management of the understory to increase its habitat value and see some of our cultural heritage in the stairways constructed of indigenous radiolarian chert by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s.
