Big Day of Giving

April 21 - May 5

Donate on the Big Day of Giving to protect some of California’s most iconic native plants and so much more!

In every corner of California, there’s a species of oak that calls it home. From the majestic Valley oak to the Coast live oak, our state hosts more than 20 native species of oaks.

A single oak tree is a stunning sight. But when you look closely, and listen carefully, you begin to see that an oak tree is so much more. Woodpeckers feast on its acorns. Squirrels nest in its branches. Birds feed the caterpillars it hosts to their young. Edible mushrooms sprout from its base. Deer munch on the leaves of lower branches.

When you save native plants, you save everything else. This Big Day of Giving, your donation to California Native Plant Society will protect our native oaks and all that depend on them.

Oaks are the foundation of a healthy ecosystem—for us humans too! The deep roots of oak trees nourish the soil. Their lush canopy filters the air, removing impurities and capturing carbon for long-term storage. Their shade even cools our cities—who hasn’t taken a break from a hot August day under the shelter of an oak tree?

To save oaks, we need research to make oaks more resilient, advocacy to protect oak woodlands, better forest management, and native oak plantings to heal damaged lands. Your support will make a difference for oak trees, oak woodlands, and native plants across California!
