CNPS Advocacy Corps
Speak Up for California’s Native Plants
California’s native plants have defenders across the state, and the CNPS Advocacy Corps is how we organize them. Participants receive training, partner with CNPS staff, and build connections with advocates across the CNPS network to create change at the federal, state, and local levels. By signing up, you’ll be the first to know about upcoming training webinars and ways to take action on issues ranging from public lands defense and urban biodiversity to ecologically informed wildfire management.
CNPS advocacy supports a wide range of interests.
Public Lands
CNPS advocates for lasting protections for California’s public lands, ensuring these places continue to support native plant diversity, clean water, and access to nature for generations to come.
Urban Biodiversity
Through initiatives like BUG (Biodiversity in Urban Gardens), CNPS is working to transform the built environment with native plants.
30X30
CNPS is a statewide leader in California’s push toward 30X30: the goal to protect 30% of our land and water by 2030.
Habitat and Species Protection
CNPS works to protect California native plant species and the habitats that sustain them, because healthy ecosystems depend on the plant communities at their foundation.
Wildfire
ire is a process that has helped maintain the balance of California’s ecosystems for millennia, but expanding development and habitat degradation make fire a deeply complex issue. CNPS believes scientists, planners, and other stakeholders must come together to address this increasingly complex and nuanced challenge.
Successful advocacy relies on a diversity of skills and life experience. You don’t have to be a native plant expert to have a say. Anyone living in California has a right to care about and advocate for their environment.
Native plants need us more than ever. Whether you are a seasoned advocate or new to the movement, this is the space for you to be part of something bigger than any of us can accomplish alone.
As a member of the Advocacy Corps, you’ll have multiple methods for engagement and meaningful impact:
Build your advocacy skills alongside a statewide network of native plant champions.
Access guidance, tools, and a statewide network to help you advocate effectively at every level: local, state, and federal.
Join fellow advocates in Sacramento to meet with legislators and champion native plant protections firsthand.
Raise your voice on critical issues and discover opportunities to connect with decisionmakers.
Work alongside your local CNPS chapter to advance native plant protections in your own community.
Support statewide research that will be used to advocate for native plants.
In forming the CNPS Advocacy Corps, we envision a future where more people are empowered with the information and inspiration to take action. Everyone has a role to play in the native plant movement, and successful advocacy relies on a diversity of skills.
