Default Amorpha Fruticosa Questions

Hello All!

Our shrub has been in the ground for almost 3 years now. It is about 8' X 8' and it is a imposing site on our patio. The branches and the leaf structure are very pretty to look at.

How long before the promised deep purple flowers manifest? In the summer, it gets about 8 hours of sun.

How and when should it be pruned? Does it bloom on this years wood or next years? I wouldn't want to jeopardize the flowers. We're having the house painted in mid September and I may need to clip it here and there!

Many thanks for taking the time to respond.

Default Amorpha flowers

Interesting...My amorpha in Escondido flowered the first year at about 15" high. Wonder if it might be getting a little too much water. You might try backing off on the water a little to see if that forces a bloom. I water mine in shade about once every 2 weeks, and it is about 3'. It usually blooms in Spring.
