ONION HABITAT PROTECTED: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has designated "about 227 acres of land within the Cleveland National Forest as critical habitat for the endangered Munz's onion," according to a USFWS press release, 6/4. Land covered by three Habitat Conservation Plans in southern California, and one HCP which is still being developed, was excluded from the designation. The Munz's onion, a member of the lily family, is found in only sixteen populations in western Riverside County, California.
