Hi Julienne -Manzanita is not really native to the valley. It typically begins in the foothills and goes up from there. Check with the local Forest Service office. They should have a staff botanist that can help you out. I know there used to be a couple on the Plumas National Forest in Oroville, the number there is 530-534-6500 ask for a botanist or if no one is available ask for Mike Taylor and tell him Ben said to call him. Good Luck. Ben</p>
