Default Assistant Professor, Biology

College of the Redwoods invites applications for Assistant Professor, Biology. This is a full-time, tenure-track positon.

This Assistant Professor position in Life Sciences is a full-time, tenure-track
position located on the Eureka Campus. The successful candidate will be broadly trained and qualified to teach the full range of biology courses
offered, which range from non-majors general biology to majors botany,
zoology and cell biology to pre-professional anatomy, physiology, and
microbiology courses. Candidates with a strong background in botany,
ecology, and environmental science are especially desirable. We are
not a research institution, but seek a candidate that has demonstrated
competence in biological research as well as demonstrated excellence
in teaching. College of the Redwoods serves a diverse community of
learners, and we seek a colleague who embraces this challenge and has a
proven track record of exploring new modalities and strategies to better
serve students. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in
a full range of department, College and community non-teaching activities
including curriculum development, student and program learning
outcome assessment, program review, shared governance, and educational
outreach. Teaching assignment may include night and weekend assignments.
Anticipated start date for this position is Fall semester, 2018.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to a candidate who is well-versed in organismal
biology and has demonstrated ability to teach lower division majors’ courses
in botany and environmental science. A candidate with a commitment
to hands-on experiential learning, in the lab and in the field, is especially
desirable. Familiarity with the lower-division transfer curriculum required for
life science majors, experience with educational technologies including CMS
platforms and “Smart” classrooms, and the ability to integrate technology-aided instruction with experiential learning in courses that prepare students
for transfer are desirable attributes of the successful candidate.

Education and Experience:
Minimum requirement: Master’s in any biological science OR Bachelor’s in
any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine
science OR the equivalent.

Position requires a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of
community college students.

Selection Process:
All applications will be reviewed by a representative screening committee.
Selected candidates will be invited to appear for a personal interview
at College of the Redwoods. Expenses incurred in connection with site
interview will not be reimbursed.
