Date: 02/28/00 Time: 11:38 AM Be sure to check out the Photo Gallery article on "Dales: A Flowering Kaleidoscope" at http://www.cnps.org/gallery/witham/dales.htm. The best display is usually from mid- to late-April, but there are wildflowers in bloom from March through early-May. There are public lands at "Hog Lake Plateau" along Highway 36 just northeast of Red Bluff and at "Dales Lake" on County Road A6 just above the community of Dales. |

Date: 04/04/00 Time: 01:03 PM So all of my previous experience with the site did not include four weeks of above average temperatures and drying winds in the later part of March and early April. The site is happening fast!!! In full bloom on 4/3/00 were Lasthenia californica and Layia fremontii. Blennosperma, Limnanthes and Minuartia are gone. Brodiaea minor is just beginning to bloom. I expect that the grassland bloom will be more or less finished by April 20th. The vernal pools will continue for some time after that. Cheers, Carol |
