transplanting manzanita and madrone

Who knows about or has sucessfully transplanted madrone or manzanita trees? Any ideas for cedar? I live in southern Oregon and want to have native plants and trees in my yard.. Thanks</p>

Nichole: One of the problems we experience is people desiring to remove plants from the wild. Please don`t, unless you are salvaging the plants from an area of imminent development. In this case, get as big a rootball as you can and water the heck out of it when you plant it in native soil, no amendments. Otherwise, I know of a pretty good native plant nursery on the coast in Florence, Oregon. I think its called 'Woodsman`s Native Nursery'Here it is: 4385 Hwy 101 north. They have a great selection of natives and you have to try their wild jams.</p>

I have brought several manzanitas and a madrone to my property successfully. No special tip except get a good root ball and put it in the ground right off. Strip weeds away for three feet. Water for the first year or two. Keep the deer off.</p>
