Default Echium - pride of Madeira

Not a native plant if it says pride of Madeira but thought I would try here for help. I live in Carmel where there`s a lot of echium. The leaves on my plants get red at the tips; the red gradually spreads to the rest of the leaf which then dies. Is it a fungus? Any help out there?</p>

Lise - Some plants exhibit the red-leaf symptom not because of a fungus, but because of a virus. I believe Echium is a member of the Borage family, but I don`t know much about the large borages - those that are shrublike. You should probably contact your county cooperative extension service.
