Default software program for Landscape Design?

I`ve heard you can purchase a software program for residential landscape design. Does anyone know anything about this? The name? Does it work well? Etc? Appreciate your thoughts. Kerry

I`ve got Sierra`s 'Land Designer' but the little I`ve used it I couldn`t give you a thorough review. If you want an idea about what`s available, I`d suggest that you contact your local landscape architect or call, 'the Garden Compass', aka Bruce Asakawa. He`s got a radio show and can tell you what he uses. www.gardencompass.com has all the AM radio stations; there`s sure to be one in your area. Alain

Kerry, If your are interested in garden design with California Native plants, then you must try www.mynativeplants.com, which is linked to the Las Pilitas website. Input your zip code, soil type, watering regimen, and mulch, and it will spit back the native plants appropriate for your site. The landscape architects are going ga ga over this one. There is nothing else out there like it. Once you have generated a list, you can click on the description and it links you to a color photo and text about the chosen plant. Try it out.

There is an inexpensive program out there that`s supposed to work pretty well. It`s in 3D which is helpful. If you don`t get that going, you can do in plan view on paper. The idea is to do your trees & shrubs as circles that are drawn mature size so that you don`t end up with no room for paths! Here`s an example of something similar to what you might get with one of those programs that I did in 3D with correct sizes for each species: http://www.edgehill.net/3D-planting Also think about having something that adds intrest at different times of the year.
