ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT)($17.75 - $32.95/HOUR) -- SIERRA DISTRICT


The reporting location for this position is in Tahoe City. This position works under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist. The incumbent will initiate and collaborate on natural resource projects to help protect, enhance, and manage foothill, mountain, and high desert natural resources. This position is responsible for the vegetation of our park units including sensitive plants, plant communities, and invasive plant species. Duties will include but are not limited to planning, implementing, and managing vegetation projects, writing reports and planning documents, conducting botanical surveys, and monitoring vegetation projects including prescribed fire. Projects will also include collecting spatial data with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), along with maintaining Fauna and Flora International (FFI) and GIS databases and computer servers. The incumbent will represent the Department and the District’s interests in public and interagency meetings. The successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in botanical surveys, plant taxonomy and identification, control and removal of invasive species, GPS and GIS, and databases. In addition, applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, be a self-starter, and be willing and able to work as part of a team or independently. This position requires the incumbent to be capable of hiking over uneven and steep terrain at high elevations, as well as work in inclement weather. Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license is required. Please provide proof of eligibility with application. State housing is not available; however, a trailer pad may be available.
