Restoration Field Specialist
For 29 years the Sacramento Tree Foundation has worked to educate the residents of the Sacramento region about the importance of trees in our communities. The Tree Foundation’s mission is to build the best regional urban forest in the nation. In addition to educating people of all ages, the Tree Foundation engages the community and mobilizes citizens to plant and care for the trees in the Sacramento region.

Position Overview:
The Restoration Field Specialist works within the Native Trees in Urban and Rural Environments (NATURE) program and performs field activities related to the planting and care of native trees. The Restoration Field Specialist works closely with program staff and Sacramento Tree Foundation partner organizations to plan, implement and steward projects establishing native trees and other plant materials at restoration sites, parks, schools, public open space, and neighborhoods throughout the Sacramento region. The Restoration Field Specialist will oversee projects working with community volunteers, service organizations and students to implement tree planting and habitat restoration activities. A background in environmental restoration, landscaping practices, agriculture, natural resource conservation and management or related fields is desired.

Specific Responsibilities

• • Work alone, in a team setting, or with volunteer workers to plant and maintain trees and other native plants according to Tree Foundation standards.
• • Perform and lead others in tree care activities including mulching, pruning and watering.
• • Execute weed abatement and vegetation control activities using hand tools, mechanical equipment and herbicides.
• • Install, maintain and operate irrigation systems to promote healthy tree establishment.
• • Monitor tree condition and site success using GIS and GPS technologies.
• • Carry out basic nursery tasks such as watering, planting, up-potting, weeding and fertilizing.
• • Communicate Tree Foundation messages to community members at planting events, while working at planting sites and at community outreach events.
• • Other duties, as assigned.

• • Must be able to work weekends and occasional evenings.
• • Knowledge of native plants, habitat types, wildlife and invasive weeds is preferred.
• • Knowledge of or prior experience using GIS monitoring systems is desired.

Position Details: Full time, permanent appointment. Hourly wage, commensurate with experience.
