Default Let me know some more. . .

How tall do you want it? How much sun? How much water?

I have used native strawberry (Fragaria). There are different species and varieties available, they claim to do well in a variety of conditions. Some spread like crazy, others don't.

There are some creeping Ceanothus spp. They each have different water, sun, soil needs.

There are some creeping Arctostaphylos spp. and again their needs are different from species to species.

Festuca rubra is a bunch grass that grows about a foot tall and sends out lateral roots, so it spreads some.

I hope that gives you some ideas to start with.

If you can tell me a bit more about what you're looking for, I might be able to make a suggestion.
