Default native plant nursery nearby?

I live in Santa Monica and would like to grow native plants instead of the lawn. Can any of you recommend a nursery close to SM and a book to get started? The soil has some clay. Thanks, Suzanne

I don`t know of a native nursery directly in your area, but Theodore Payne is located in the east SF Valley- in Sunland, I believe. Marjorie Schmidt`s book is a good starter. And the best native website, by far, is www.laspilitas.com. Good luck.

In addition to the excellent Las Pilitas website already mentioned, the web page for the Payne Foundation is http://www.theodorepayne.org/ Another native plant nursery to the north of you in Ventura County is Matilija Nursery http://www.matilijanursery.com/ Good luck.
