Job Title: Ecological Field Technician
Classification: Temporary/ Seasonal position
Agency/Organization: Gulf South Research Corporation
Location: Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton (MCBCP) northern San Diego County, CA

Job Description: Seeking a highly-motivated, conservation-minded biological technician to assist in a large scale invasive plant removal project on Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton (MCBCP) in San Diego, CA. Approximately 200 of the more than 900 plant species found on MCBCP are considered non-native to California. Successful candidates will help implement strategies for the control of non-native plants deemed to cause vast ecological and/or economic damage through various habitat types. Methods of eradication, suppression, reduction, and management of invasive plant species will be implemented by chemical and manual methods in sensitive natural areas. Candidates will get the opportunity to monitor and map existing and new invasive plant populations through GIS and botanical surveys, as well as help the prevention of further spreading from previously infested areas.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Minimum B.S. or B.A Degree in Environmental Biology, Botany, Ecology, or related fields.
-California Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) will be given priority or must have the ability to pass the QAC Exam.
-Experience with invasive species removal techniques, including but not limited to mechanical (hand pulling, hand tools, brush cutters, etc.) and chemical (back pack sprayers and truck mounted sprayers).
-Ability to lift and carry heavy (up to 50lbs) material.
-Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
-Comfortable working/hiking in harsh environments in unpredictable and sometimes inclement weather.
-Knowledge of Southern California native and non-native flora and fauna is preferred.
-Experience using ArcGIS, Trimble or Garmin.
-Must be able to pass a background check.
-Valid driver’s license and must be able to provide your own transportation to the work site.

Compensation: Dependent upon experience and qualifications
