Default Vinegar and detergent

Hi Leah,
Just this past week I attended a California Invasive Plant Council Symposium where a gentleman told me he used vinegar and water with a little detergent to kill a type of weed. I wasn't sure it was too good of an idea to put detergent out in the environment but most herbicides contain chemicals that are essentially detergents but call them surfactants.
