Restoration Specialist Job Announcement

Grassroots Ecology is a non-profit that engages and educates the community to restore local ecosystems in the Silicon Valley. Our strategies focus on habitat restoration, native plants, invasive plant control, creek and watershed stewardship, environmental education, and volunteer engagement. We are seeking a Restoration Specialist to help restore habitat and engage volunteers at several of our sites, as well as provide in class environmental education at local schools.


  • Be part of a team to support environmental stewardship and educational activities at various habitat restoration sites in northern Santa Clara and southern San Mateo counties
  • Help organize and run volunteer workdays, high school and middle school service projects, college intern program, and other community engagement activities
  • Create and deliver educational content and interpretive elements for students and volunteers
  • Help implement and refine restoration techniques for project sites (e.g. invasive weed removal, native plant installation and maintenance)
  • Assist with maintenance of sites, such as weeding and watering
  • Help monitor and report on activities and progress
  • Provide in class environmental and watershed education for grades K-12

Required Skills
  • BA or BS in a science related field
  • Ability to work outside in physically demanding sites and situations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that reflect a team mentality
  • Comfortable with a flexible work environment and working 2+ weekends per month
  • Valid CA driver's license with clean driving record
  • Background checks will be conducted on final candidates

Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of CA native plants and ecology
  • Volunteer management and outreach experience
  • Experience providing education to others, especially youth


This is a full time exempt position including medical and dental benefits. Salary depends on experience.
