About the Position:
Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is currently seeking an Associate-level Botanist / Plant Ecologist to work in our Oakland office. Job duties may include: conducting biological and natural resource field surveys collecting observational data concerning a variety of plant species or natural communities; using GPS units, tablets, topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other tools to perform vegetation/habitat mapping; pre-construction surveys and compliance monitoring for special-status plants and wildlife; assisting with wetland delineations or protocol-level presence/absence surveys for sensitive plants; preparing biological resource components of environmental analyses under CEQA and NEPA; supporting the preparation of permit applications for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, BCDC, Coastal Commission, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board; and assisting in the design, implementation, and monitoring of habitat restoration projects.

1-4 years related work experience; bachelorís degree in biology, ecology, wildlife conservation or related discipline; strong field skills; GIS and quantitative analysis skills consistent with mapping and report preparation; experience in working with biological resources, and wetlands in Northern California; experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) preferred but not required; strong technical writing, and critical thinking skills required; and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
