Default Senior-Level Ecologist (Aquatic and/or Terrestrial)

North State Resources, Inc. (NSR), a leading provider of natural resources management and environmental compliance services in California, seeks experienced ecologists with specialized knowledge of terrestrial and/or aquatic biology and the state and federal regulatory frameworks for conserving biological resources to join our multidisciplinary team. These are full-time, senior-level positions based in Redding, Chico, or Sacramento (preferred for terrestrial ecologist), with technical, management, and related responsibilities throughout the company.

These are career-track positions with opportunity for substantial advancement. Only experienced ecologists are encouraged to apply. Initially, the successful candidates will design study methodologies; direct and participate in archival research and field investigations; assemble and interpret complex datasets; review and write technical reports including biological evaluations, biological assessments, and other analytical documents; contribute to environmental compliance documents; and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams. After an orientation period, the position will grow to include responsibility for task and project management, business development, and client coordination.

Demonstrable Education and Experience: NSR’s senior-level ecologists contribute to a diverse range of projects in a variety of roles, including as single subject–matter experts, team members, task leaders, and project managers. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a history of working effectively with federal, state, and local agencies, private owners and project developers, and non-government organizations.

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in a biological or ecological discipline and excellent academic and professional credentials are required. A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience is needed. Expertise in environmental, biological, and ecological data collection; analytical and statistical techniques; geospatial analysis; and computer-related skills are necessary. Also required is demonstrated understanding of environmental laws and regulations. Strong preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to strong field skills, demonstrate experience leading the preparation of environmental compliance documents and permitting applications, and have a history of developing practical strategies for regulatory compliance. Experience with GIS or an affinity for and interest in acquiring basic GIS skills are preferred. Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well with people is essential.
