Lead Propagator

The Lead Propagator will work with the Nursery Manager and Nursery Production Assistants to facilitate all aspects of nursery irrigation, production and maintenance. The Lead Propagator will have various responsibilities including:

Nursery Propagation:
• Cuttings propagation
• Record keeping of propagation events
• Assist in seed propagation
• Overseeing Nursery Production Assistants

Nursery Production:
• Nursery stock irrigation and inspection
• Fertilizing
• Materials inventory and acquisition
• Organic Pest Management
• Nursery facility maintenance and cleanup
• High grading plants as needed
• Customer service assistance for walk-in nursery customers
• Nursery landscaping and demonstration garden care.

Required Qualifications
Good customer relations skills
Ability to manage plant propagation and maintenance
Skilled in the identification of California native plants and native plant cultivars
Knowledge of California Native Plant communities
Familiarity with California native plant propagation schedules from seed and cuttings
Ability to take a leadership role in a propagation team
Must be physically fit: able to stoop, bend, and repeatedly lift 35 lbs
Willingness to work in inclement weather (Raingear provided)
Ability to follow instructions and maintain detailed records

Our work is motivated by our concern over the continuing threats of native species extinction, concomitant loss of biodiversity and the desertification of California's bioregions. We believe that these trends can be reversed through the integration of ecological principles with land use planning. We provide ecological services with applications in natural lands management, landscape design and sustainable agriculture.
