Entry-Level Terrestrial Biologist
 
North State Resources, Inc. (NSR), a leading provider of natural resources management and environmental compliance services in California, seeks entry-level terrestrial biologists to join our multidisciplinary team. These are full-time positions based in Redding, Chico, or Sacramento, with technical responsibilities throughout the company.
These are career-track positions with opportunities for substantial advancement. Successful candidates will be responsible for completing field investigations requiring basic understanding of a range of biological resources including botany and plant communities, wildlife biology (birds, mammals, herpetofauna), and/or wetlands. Initial responsibilities will include background research and database queries; habitat characterization and mapping; and floristic and wildlife field surveys. In time, the position will grow to include wetland delineations, preparation of technical reports and permit applications, and construction monitoring.
Demonstrable Education and Experience: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree (preferred) in terrestrial biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, or other closely related discipline and at least two field seasons of work experience relevant to the following evaluation criteria. Excellent writing, verbal communication, and analytical skills are required. Experience with the use of maps and aerial photographs, orienteering skills, and the ability to follow standard or custom data collection procedures are needed. Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors for extended periods under all weather conditions, work in remote locations, and traverse rugged terrain; must commit to participate in applicable company/client safety programs; and must be able and willing to work independently or with limited supervision. Basic skills using GPS are required and experience with GIS or an affinity for and interest in acquiring basic GIS skills are preferred. Previous work experience as an ecologist or biologist in central and northern California is preferred. Occasional overnight travel is required.
