Rodgers Res Vitis californica

After reading Earthly Pleasures by KG Endicott in the SF Chron. I picked up two Rodgers Red at my local nursery in Benicia. Will they do well in pots? My thought is to have them grow over my backyard trellis from half wine barrles, or would they do better in the ground? Any thoughts or comments would be welcomed.
