I have remarkably hard clay soil and; I have renteda tiller it bounced off the surface. I have had two hernia sugeries in my life so digging it the old fashion way really is not a good idea for meI would like find some way to have a low maintenance front yard with a small native non-mowing lawn of some kind that would be attractive etc
any thoughts????
right now my yard is the neighborhood eyesore covered in black plastic etc..

Ok - here are a couple of suggestions. Hire a neighbor kid to do all of the hard work. Water the back yard throughly. Decide what it is that you want from your yard. You could keep it simple and mix some sand and mulch in the top couple of feet of clay and plant a lawn which will be fairly high maintenance or you could go native. This is the preferred option. See my urgent message several postings ago for a list of nurseries, or send a not back for further help. You can lay out a path way in the back yard and design your garden around it. Native shrubs and plants will bring beauty and wildlife to your yard and be relatively low maintenance at the same time. Again, it all depends on what you want from your yard. Good luck. Ben
