I live in the Sierra foothills (Sonora area) and have some exposed slopes on a new property I just purchased. I would like to seed the areas and cover with jute matting prior to this winter to help stabilize the slopes. They are 45 degree bank cuts and are pretty rocky (shale). Any suggestions for grass seed, ground cover etc. and where to purchase would be most helpful. I would prefer native seed if possible.

Thanks

I would go with a mountain seed mix available through S&S seeds in Carpenteria. They ship promptly. I tend to go lean on the grasses, and instead emphasize wildflowers, forbs, and pioneer species for slope stabilization. You might end up with some viable habitat as well that way. Control all non-native weeds.
