I think Salvia greggii is from Mexico. However it grows well here and fits into the xeriscape concept. In other words, don't feel gypped. You can buy hybrids of this at Home Depot, incidentally. I have two- bought at native plant nurseries but it's pretty. I felt uncomfortable when I found out they weren't natives, but hey, it beats eucalyptus, right?

This family of plants are native to the southwestern US and northern/central Mexico - the reason I state this is plants don't regard political borders, only microclimates! S. Greggi is a family of wonderful plants, many hybrids are alive and well with many colors and bloom times to choose from, and it seems they bloom later than som perennials, as if to feed migrating hummingbirds on their way back south for the winter.
