A recent trip through the Sierra left me shocked at the number of sick and stunted trees of all species visible from Hwy. 80. Even on my recent Bay Area walks I've seen large numbers of Coyote bush, fennel (not native, I know...), willow, and numerous other shrubs and small trees dead, or dying in patches. I'm aware of Sudden Oak Death and pitch canker disease. But nowhere have I read that the diffusion of these pathogens is so geographically widespread, across so many species, as I seem to be seeing now. What's going on? I'm not a "plant person;" I don't frequent these boards, so I'm hoping you all know something I don't, or can suggest resources for finding out. Thanks.
