The California Native Plant Society needs to take an active role in the rescue of the highly endangered flora of Guadalupe Island off the coast of Baja. As CNPSers know that flora is essentially Californian and has been ravaged by goats for many years. Reid Moran reported in Fremontia that it was getting to be now or never time. I urge CNPS to decalre a project of rehabilitation of Guadalupe Island in partnership with Mexican conservation organizations. Thanks.

I agree with the poster on Guadalupe Island. There is very little left of the unique native flora or fauna of the island, but perhaps enough to make the investment of time and money worth it. Look at the success of San Clemente after goat removal. Reid Moran's FLORA OF GUADALUPE ISLAND must be one of the most poignant, understated arguments for conservation intervention I have ever read. His articles in Fremontia are equally inspiring. Guadalupe is our region's Madeira or Juan Fernandez or Lord Howe or Norfolk.
