I am doing my masters thesis on the life history and conservation of this rare species. C. purpureus occurs solely in the mountain range east of Napa. It is dependent on fire for regeneration, suffers high seed predation, and can be shaded out by taller shrubs if an area goes unburned for too long. My project will focus on: the distribution and abundance of this species; its seed bank dynamics; germination response with respect to fire, soil moisture, and seed burial depth; seed rain and seed predation rates. I am looking for any studies or reports that may have been done on this plant. In addition, I am hoping to track down all of the remaining populations. Any information on this speices and its whereabouts would be greatly appreciated!
