Hi Native Growers!

I live in San Diego and am having little luck finding any growers that carry native plants. I am ready to climb into the hills and dig some up! I would appreciate any info on local growers or anyone who does mail order?

Thank you.</p>

Below I've pasted two excellent sources for native plants near San Diego. Both are growers and have a wide selection. For a more extensive list of retail outlets, see http://www.n2.net/cschneid/Habitat_Restoration_Groups/Gardening_with_natives.html

Some other retail outlets have areasonable selection - Walter Anderson Nursery in MidTown comes to mind.

P.S. Transplanting mature plants is not very successful - but rooting from cuttings often works well! And the parent plant remains intact.

Tree of Life Nursery, 33201 Ortega Highway, San Juan Capistrano, CA, 949 728-0685, MiKe Evans and Staff: Service@Mycorrhiza.co, http://TreeOfLifeNursery.com/java/index.htm/ - Wholesale, but open to the public on Fridays and some Saturdays. The nursery specializes in the propagation of over 600 types of native plants for landscaping and revegetation. Container and bareroot nursery plants in many sizes. Also a supplier of mycorrhizal inoculum. Publishes a detailed guide to the plants that they sell.%0D

Las Pilitas Nursery, Old Highway 395 and Nelson Way, Escondido, CA 92026, 760-822-1350 temporary, Ian Wilson: ijwilson@oso.slonet.org, www.laspilitas.com/ - Wholesale, retail. A nursery that has been involved with the ecology of California native plants and the science of growing native plants for gardens and restoration projects since 1974. Contract growers of about 2000 species of California Natives. An impressive website with pictures and descriptions of hundreds of varieties.</p>

thank you! I'll try Las Pilitas, it's fairly close. And I've had experience trying to transplant mature plants with little success. I appreciate the info!</p>
