Subject: Conserving Seeds of San Diego County`s Flora

Sorry for any cross postings!

Dear Plant Conservationist:

Please join us THIS FRIDAY, 10/17/03 at 1:30 PM in the San Diego
Natural History Museum`s Fourth-Floor Board Room for a
briefing/presentation from Mr. Giles Coode-Adams, former Chief Executive
retired of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. At Kew, Giles helped found
The Millennium Seed Bank Project in 1995 and remains a voluntary advisor
there.

We will be entering into an ex situ seed conservation project with Kew
under their international 'Seeds for Success' program. The goal will be
to collect seeds from 450 of San Diego County`s non-listed plant
species. The San Diego Natural History Museum will also be a part of the
program in receiving herbarium specimens and funding for equipment for
their participation in this project [ For more information on the
Millennium Seed Bank Project please take a look at their web site and
their vision: http://www.rbgkew.org.uk/msbp/internat/index.html ]

Have you ever wanted local San Diego County seed collections? The
potential for a source of local seeds will grow as our project gets
underway. Collections in good years, when seed is available, will open
up a valuable revegetation resource for the needs of projects in our
county.

Please join us for Giles` informal presentation this Friday.

Regards,
Joey
