Hi everyone, I recently collected some ceanothus seeds, but I`m not sure which variety of ceanothus I have. I`d like to start the seeds but am unsure what kind of seed treatment, if any, to employ. Please let me know if you have any advice or experience with this! Thanks, Amy

Amy - In general, I think seeds of most Ceanothus species benefit from being soaked in hot water - heat the water to almost boiling, pour it on the seeds, and let them sit there until the water is cool. There are variations on the treatment, but I don`t think anything good could come of actually boiling the seeds ya never know, though. Some species also need cold stratification - storage in a damp-not-wet medium in the refrigerator for some number of weeks or months. Dara Emery`s book, Seed Propagation of California Native Plants I think I`ve got that title right! tells all. Good luck, Lori Hubbart
