View Full Version : Manzanita disease

I transplanted a manzanita from the wild to my property. It took and grew robustly but now has the leaf tips are red, curled and brittle. The plant seems healthy otherwise. Anyone know what this is and what I should do?

The red, curled leaf margins are some form of gall, I believe, possibly from a type of wasp. I have found that these often disappear with time. Try to push the manzanita toward drought tolerance, if you haven`t already. Control weeds and mulch with oak, pine, or redwood. Good luck.

Correction - the leaf gall is apparently caused by an aphid specific to manzanita, in the genus Tamalia. The wasp I was thinking of actually causes gall on oak trees. Sorry.
