Since bamboo grow so well in Southern California, can it be an asset in the native landscape plan. Which bamboos are best here? </p>

There are hundreds upon hundreds of varieties of grass native to California, some of them the most interesting grasses in the world. Why exactly do you want to plant BAMBOO? Bamboos are not native here and tend to be a bit of water-piggies if you know what I mean.. Please remember to plant for the future when we may not always have such luxurious supplies of water at our fingertips as we do now enjoy..

Bamboo can be quite difficult to control if you want it removed.. Do you also plant that horrid 'fountain grass' which is so popular with bad nurseries around my house?? Blech!! Try Some Natives, kiddo! Valley Needle Grass nassella cernuuamay grow quite well in your area and it is lovely.. California brome or a brome native to your area is another choice.. Idaho fescue, red fescue, take your pick!
