The successful candidates will be members of a research team in support ofthe San Joaquin River Riparian Habitat Restoration Program. The positionsinvolve habitat assessments along the San Joaquin River corridor;participate in ecological research on riparian communities. A workingknowledge of the natural communities of central California is helpful, butnot required. At minimum, the successful candidates are expected torapidly become familiar with riparian communities of central California andwith the relevant survey and research methods; have the ability to workunder supervision and also be self-directed; have the ability to establishand maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, agencystaff, and the general public; have experience with data entry, statisticalanalysis, and database management using MS-DOS/Windows based computers;demonstrated ability to analyze and summarize data and to develop writtenreports on results of research; ability to camp overnight at unimprovedresearch sites periodically; ability to walk up to 12 miles per day overrough and steep terrain and work outdoors in all types of weather; safelyoperate four-wheel drive vehicles; work at sites to include, but notlimited to, Fresno, Madera, and Merced counties; possess a valid Californiadriver's license, and ability to obtain a California defensive driver'scertificate.

RIPARIAN COMMUNITY ECOLOGIST
SALARY: $2,600 to $3,600 monthly depending on degree and years of relevantexperience plus full benefits package
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The successful candidate will act as Project Coordinator for a researchteam in support of the San Joaquin River Riparian Habitat RestorationProgram. The position involves habitat assessments along the San JoaquinRiver corridor; participates in and coordinates ecological research onriparian communities and associated animal and plant species; and conductsfield studies including planning, logistical arrangements, data collectionand analysis, and report preparation. Emphasis will be placed on databasedevelopment and the provision of planning assistance to government agenciesand their partners. The Project Coordinator will work closely with theESRP Director and agency staff, including the U.S. Bureau of Reclamationand the California Dept. of Fish & Game in planning cooperative researchactivities and making public presentations. The Project Coordinator willalso be required to collaborate with and supervise staff biologists,consultants, and interns.
HIGHLY DESIRED SKILLS:Candidates with skills in wildlife research and experience in riparian,wetland or oak communities are particularly encouraged to apply. Excellentcommunication skills are highly desirable. Applicants should have anexcellent background in data analysis and possess strong abilities inscientific writing, including preparation of manuscripts for publication.
