I have not heard of people that have success digging up oak seedlings. It is fairly easy to start your own oaks in 1 gallon pots from acorns and that is the technique I generally recommend to anyone wanting to use their own source material as success rates with digging up seedlings is so poor. I have heard of people using tar paper wraps or long tubes to grow oaks as you can have a longer space for the root to grow if you aren't likely to get the trees planted right away. I believe I have heard that you can't break the root when digging out seedlings and you have to keep the dirt completely compacted around the root.</p>
