Does anyone have any recommendations or ideas for experimentation with California Native Plants as Houseplants? We live in Truckee, CA and have rather specific requirements. The environment would be dry shade, as the location will be on top of some kitchen cabinets, and we use a wood-fired stove in the winter that drys everything out pretty good. I'm thinking of trying the following:
Maidenhair Fern (planted in a pot within a pot surrounded by sphagnum moss)
Heucheras
Deer & Sword Ferns
Native Rhododendron
Wild Ginger
Hummingbird Sage

Wondering if any taller bunch grasses might work, or if anyone has other suggestions to try.

Many Thanks,
Erik

It would be difficult to recommend anything without more information. Needed would be how much shade and if what lighting is available is sun or artificial as well as the amount of space that would be available for the plants to grow within. As far as dryness of the air is concerned, that could always be changed by the use of humidity trays.

I don't think the sage's would do well at all for lack of sun. ferns would be a better idea.
