I recently planted some Yellow Eyed Grass Sisyrinchum californicum on the edge of a pond area . I get to work on the site only once a week, this week I have noticed that the pond is getting deeper. How well will this plant do with an inch or two of watercover over a period of time? I have other native plants there as well but not so close to getting flooded. I have little control over how much water goes into the pond , though it is a manmade pond. The plants look good, but I am wondering if they can handle long periods of water cover, if not I will move them back. Thanks for any help.

Rene,I would imagine others will have something to say about this but I would consider water cover around the root zone to be OK as long as it not more than a few months. My Munz says it is a plant found in 'Moist places at low elevations, Freshwater marsh etc.'I'm sure if you looked it up in Jepson it would also state 'Wet' for brief its cultivation tip.Since its from that type of environment it will probably do fine with seasonal water level changes. Remember however, that since YOU planted it rather than seed germanating where it found its 'ideal' spot, it is possible that greater success would be attained if a few other Sisyrinchium were added at various distances from the water line. Then as the water level fluctuates through the years you will be able to see where it does best or if such attention to detail is even warranted in this case.Sorry, I don't have first hand experience with slightly submerged golden-eyed grass. I do know mine will take ALOT of water.Best of luck-Dan

Thanks for the reply. I think the plants will do ok too. But I just wanted some 2nd opinions. The others I have planted are farther away from the pond. So we will see..
