my townhouse complex in Sunnyvale SF Bay Area is removing several olive trees because they considered the dropping black fruit a nuisance. a developer is paying to take them away and replant. I would guess the trees are about 25 years old.
I'd like suggestions on native trees to plant in their place. I noticed a lot of little birds in the olive trees and would hate for them to lose their habitat. Preferably the trees wouldn't grow to be too large but stay olive-tree sized and wouldn't have some 'nuisance' maintenance issue.
