I got this CA native plant (see attached) and the nursery had a label on it as California Pipevine (Aristolochia californica). For years, that's what I've been calling it. Then I actually looked up CA pipevine, and it looks nothing like this. So I'm pretty sure this plant was mislabeled by the nursery.

So help: what is this plant!? Can anybody identify? I've looked in books and online and can't figure it out.

Thanks much,
jd

Does it flower or have a scent? It looks like some wild flowers I have, before they flower, but it if you have had it for years it can't be an annual. Not really sure. Is that humming bird sage next to it?

It doesn't have much of a scent. In 3 years it has never flowered (though when I bought it, the guy who sold it to me said it was a flower since that is all that I was interested in).

And yes, that is hummingbird sage next to it.

I believe the plant is an Artemisia species,
A. pycnocephala

This species is found along the coast in dunes away from the shore and
along sandy river banks.
