View Full Version : A Chamomile Type Native

 I live in Calaveras county in Northern California near Valley Springs. There is a little plant in my yard, that I am encouraging to grow as a ground cover. I am curious as to it's name and if it is a native or an import.
A local nurseryman said it wasn't camomile. He thought he remembered it being called something with pineapple in the name. That made sense because it resembles camomile with the feathery leaves and even the fragrance, but the little yellow, button-like flower is pineapple or egg-shaped.
It survives with little water, but really flourishes when it does get some moisture.
I'm obviously new to this. Please forgive any shortcomings.
Thanks for any info.

It could be Western pineappleweed (Chamomilla occidentalis). Here's a link (http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-taxon=Chamomilla+occidentalis)
