I am searching for thin native trees, shrubs, or vines that would work well planted against a wall with only 2 feet of depth MAXIMUM. I have 5 foot passage ways along the sides of my house and I need to keep these passages as open as possible for foot traffic. My goal is to block out the view of my neighbors' homes--while keeping plenty of walking space within my 5 ft. passage ways. I have thought of planting thin vines however I don't know if they will grow much higher than our 6 foot wall and I need them at least 10ft. high. Maybe small trees that won't grow into our house are better? Any suggestions? Thanks for your input! Laura

Hi,

Mountain Mahonany Cercocarpus Bellutoides - I think is wonderful. Just don't let anyone top it. You can prune out the shoots down below and let the center go straight up in about a 3ft diameter circle to 10ft. It needs some shade east or north facing wall
