Does anyone have historical information on yerba mansa and know where I might purchase this plant? I am doing research on early CA history. I would like to hear from others interested in Indian, Spanish and Mexican eras and their herbs. Here's what I've gathered so far Thank you, Rosemary Nightingale The Squaw Valley Herb Gardens
HERBS FROM OLD CALIFORNIA Yerba Mansa Anemopsis californica: ?Yerba Mansa? was an old ?Indian? herb of great value and was quickly adapted by the Spanish population. They went to great lengths to get it and once in their hands they used it after the way of the Indians. They chopped the bark and made a brew that served as a wash, and linament for aches, and stubborn sores. Crushed leaves were used to reduce swelling. They cut, dried and pulverized all parts of this plant and sprinkled this over lacerations to disinfect and heal. It could be made into a tea, powder or poultice and was used with great respect for all kinds of abrasions, burns and sores in men and their animals. </p>
