CNPS Chapters

Your Local CNPS Chapter is an excellent resource for regional information about native plants appropriate for home and public gardens. Many chapters offer gardening workshops, field trips to view native landscapes, and other activities. Find your local chapter on the Chapter Map

Native Plant Lists: Many local chapters also keep lists of native plants that work well in home gardens. (Link coming soon)

Books and Publications

  • Fremontia: CNPS publishes Fremontia, a botanic journal, in which articles on native gardens and incorporating plants in native gardens are often published.. Print copies of the journal are included in CNPS membership, and older versions of the journal can be found here.
  • CNPS Bulletin: CNPS also publishes a quarterly newsletter called the Bulletin, which highlights news and events of interest to CNPS members. Print copies of the Bulletin are mailed to CNPS members, and older versions can be found here.
  • Chapter Newsletters: Most CNPS chapters also publish regular newsletters that are distributed to members of their chapter. Many chapters post their newsletters on their websites. Find your local chapter
  • The CNPS Store carries a number of books on topics relating to growing natives and how to incorporate them into your own garden. See our Online Store for information on native plant gardening books that can be purchased on line from CNPS.
  • Pacific Horticulture Magazine, published by the non-profit Pacific Horticulture Foundation, carries many articles on incorporating California native plants in the home garden. CNPS members receive a discount to annual subscriptions to Pacific Horticulture.
  • Bay Nature Magazine, published by the Bay Nature Institute, contains articles about natural habitats in the San Francisco Bay Region, and often has information about native plants suitable for the garden. CNPS members receive a discount to annual subscriptions to Bay Nature.
  • Manzanita, the newsletter of Friends of the Regional Parks Botanic Garden, also contains high quality articles about native plant gardening.
