Timber Harvest Plan Review

California’s Private Timberlands

Several hundred timber harvests plans are filed with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) every year in California. Of these, very few receive botanical review by the Department of Fish and Game (DFG), the trustee agency responsible for protecting botanical resources on private timberlands. Accordingly, it is important that CNPS members participate in the THP review process to insure that botanical resources receive the protection properly due them.

CDF’s THP program regulates timber harvest on large, industrial, private timberlands. Small landowners are governed by a different set of regulations, and must file Non-Industrial Timber Management Plans (NTMPs).
