Introduction to Rare Plant Surveys

Presenters: Teresa Sholars, Professor College of the Redwoods

Teresa Sholars has been a Professor of Biology, Forestry and Agriculture at College of the Redwoods for 36 years and a part time Botanical Consultant for 37 years.  She was author for perennial lupines in The Jepson Manual, Higher Plants of California, and all lupines for the upcoming second edition. She is currently writing the Lupinus treatment for the Flora of North America and a section of the photo companion book for the second edition of A Manual of California Vegetation. Teresa is a CNPS Fellow and has been the rare plant coordinator, for the Dorothy King Young chapter of CNPS, from the beginning, and on state wide rare plant committees and is current Chair of the CNPS statewide Education Committee.

Workshop Content

Participate in an overview of how to plan, conduct and review rare plant surveys. We will cover the legal basis for requiring surveys, the accepted methodologies for conducting surveys, and provide insights on how to review rare plant survey reports. This workshop is intended for botanists, wildlife biologists and land mangers that must conduct, request, or review surveys in the course of their duties.
